The country has 800 governmental, 300 private and 36 specialty hospitals where many projects are conducted for the international biotech/pharmaceutical industry as well as U.S. governmental institutions such as the NIH, NCI and CDC. It ranks #5 in term of number of clinical trial registered in clinicaltrials.gov in Asia.
Many of the investigators have been trained in Western countries. A large number of the patients in South East Asia are drug naive. These facts contribute to the speed with which trials can be initiated and the high quality of data collected.
